Q. What wound pathogens has Flaminal® been shown to be active against?

  • Flaminal® has been shown to be active against MRSA, VREF, E.coli and Pseudomonas³.

Q.  Can Flaminal® be used with hyperbaric treatments.

  • Yes, it can.

Q.  Is surgical or manual debridement necessary before the application of Flaminal®?

  • No.  One of the key actions of Flaminal® is continuous autolytic debridement.  Surgical or manual debridement prior to application is not necessary.

Q.  Can Flaminal® Hydro be used on ulcerated nipples of breast feeding mothers?

  • Yes.  Flaminal® will help to heal the ulcers.  Flaminal® is safe to ingest.

Q.  Can Flaminal® be used as a treatment against thrush?

  • Flaminal® is effective against C. albicans², but the gel is not suited for thrush treatment, so it should not be used.

Q.  Does Flaminal® have any action on the inflammatory stage of wound healing?

  • Flaminal® reduces bacterial load and reduces excess of some matrix metaloprotease (MMP) activity, namely MMP-1 and MMP-9.  Flaminal® does not stop MMP activity entirely and nor should it as a wound needs some inflammation to heal well.  In the absence of inflammation, a wound will become atonous and stop healing.

Q.  Is Flaminal® haemostatic?

  • No.  Flaminal® does not contain sufficient Ca to be haemostatic.

Q.  What is the purpose of guaiacol in Flaminal®?

  • The guaiacol in Flaminal® increases the lifespan of the oxygen and halogenide radicals.  This substantially increase the effectiveness of the enzyme system without causing toxicity to skin cells.

Q.  Is there any benefit to using Flaminal® on suture lines?

  • Yes, Flaminal® acts as a prophylactic against bacterial infection.  It also creates the ideal wound healing environment so as to promote healing and minimise scarring.  Apply Flaminal® on the sutures and cover with a transparent film.  The film should remain in place until the sutures are removed.

Q.  Can Flaminal® be applied directly onto bone and/or tendon?

  • Yes it can.  Please click on the below link and refer to the second case.

Q.  Can Flaminal® be used on infants who are glucose intolerant?

  • Yes, it can.

Q.  Can Flaminal® be used after laser facial ablation?

  • Yes, Flaminal® can be applied, but it should be covered.  Non adherent absorbent dressings or 1 to 2 layers of simple cotton gauze can be used.  If transparency is sought, silicon sheets can be used or even light curtain nylon fabric.  As the primary dressing is not adherent, it should be combined with a mesh in the form of a balaclava, particularly if the treated surface area is large.

Q.  Can Flaminal® be used on fungating facial tumours?

  • If bleeding is not an issue, then yes, Flaminal® can be used.  The Flaminal® will create a moist wound healing environment.  It will also debride the wound and help clear up any infection.

Q.  Can Flaminal® be used on neonates?

  • Yes, it can.

Q.  Can Flaminal® be used on heel ulcers?

  • Yes, apply Flaminal® and cover with a V-shaped gauze compress.

Q.  How do I use Flaminal® in fistulas and small deep cavities?

  • Inject Flaminal® carefully into the cavity using a syringe or canula.

Q.  How do I use Flaminal® in an undermined wound?

  • Place sterile gauze tampons in the cavity as a support and then apply a sufficient amount of Flaminal® in the cavity between the tampons.

Q.  Does Flaminal® reduce hypergranulation?

  • No.  Flaminal® restores the bacterial balance in the wound and by continually removing necrotic material allows natural wound healing.  It does not reverse the effects of hypergranulation.

Q.  Can Flaminal® be used on the blisters associated with EB?

  • Yes.  Flaminal® can be applied directly to the blisters or it can be put on the dressing and then applied via the dressing to the blisters.  The dressing should be changed daily.  Flaminal® will not prevent the eruption of further blisters, for which there is no cure.

Q. Can Flaminal® be used on split skin grafts?

  • Yes, Flaminal® Hydro is usually recommended.

Q. Can Flaminal® be used with cellulitis?

  • If there is a wound, Flaminal® can be used.  Flaminal® Forte should be used when the exudate levels are high.  Change to Flaminal Hydro® as exudate reduces.

Q.  Can Flaminal® be used together with Acticoat?

  • No.  The combined used of Flaminal® and Acticoat is contra-indicated.
